Getting Started

You may have reached gale-associations.com either through an e-mail from us, containing a link to this website and your PEN and password; or through your own web browsing, wanting to be listed in the Encyclopedia of Associations (EA).

If you received an e-mail from us, just go to the login page, enter the PEN and password in the e-mail, and start updating your association's profile.

What is a PEN?

Your PEN (Permanent Entry Number) is your association's unique identifier in our database. Each association such as yours has its own unique PEN. It also serves as your login ID to the system.

What if I do not have a PEN? How do I get one?

If you do not yet have a PEN, that means you are not yet listed in our database. Click on New Association to register your association into our database. You will then receive an e-mail from us containing your PEN and password. Using this PEN and password, you can login and update your association's profile.

Am I eligible for listing in EA?

The organizations described in EA fall into the following general categories:

• National, nonprofit membership associations, which represent the largest number of organizations listed;

• International associations, which are generally North American in scope and membership or binational, representing a direct link between the United States and another country or region; also includes American or North American sections, chapters, or divisions of associations headquartered outside of the United States;

• Local and regional associations, only if their subjects or objectives are national in interest;

• Nonmembership organizations, if they disseminate information to the public as well as to the researcher.

All entries are subject to editorial review.

What do I do if I entered an incorrect PEN or Password?

You have three attempts to enter your correct PEN and password. After your third incorrect login attempt, the system will direct you to the New Association page. Please fill-in and submit all the necessary information. The system administrator will be able to determine that you are an already existing association in our database and that you simply mis-entered your PEN or password. You will receive an e-mail containing your correct PEN and password.

How do I change my PEN and password?

You cannot change your PEN. You may, however, change your password. To do so, first you have to sign-in using your current PEN and password, then click on the Change Password utility.

How do I get my affiliate associations listed into EA?

If you want to refer your affiliate associations to us, just go to New Association and submit the necessary information about your affiliate. Your affiliate will then receive an e-mail from us containing their PEN and password. Using this PEN and password, your affiliate can login and update their profile.

Is the information I enter into this site kept private and secure?
